GTA 6 Map Size vs GTA 5
Rockstar has not published an official size for the GTA 6 map. Rockstar North staff told YouTubers at an August 2026 preview that Leonida is about twice the size of GTA 5’s map and that Vice City alone is about twice Los Santos (PC Gamer report). The newest community estimate puts Leonida’s land at about 86 km², against roughly 50 km² of land in GTA 5: about 1.7×. Both are estimates until the game is out on November 19, 2026.

Squares have the same area as each map’s land; the real game maps are not square. The real Florida distance from the Keys to the Panhandle is about 650 km, so in-game Leonida compresses whole regions into a few kilometres.

We only repeat figures with a named source. Very large numbers that circulate online (over 300 km²) do not match any of the measurements above, so we leave them out. Community maps are linked for credit only; we do not copy their data or images.
Is GTA 6 bigger than GTA 5?
Very likely yes, by somewhere between about 1.7× (community land estimate) and 2× (what Rockstar North staff told preview guests). It is not the order-of-magnitude jump some early rumours claimed. The bigger change is density: Rockstar describes Vice City and its suburbs as far larger than Los Santos and its surroundings, so more of the map is city.
How many cities are in GTA 6?
One big city has been confirmed: Vice City. Rockstar’s six regions also include the town of Port Gellhorn, the industrial heartland of Ambrosia, the island chain of the Leonida Keys, the Grassrivers wetlands and Mount Kalaga National Park. See all Leonida regions or the Vice City map.
Why the GTA 6 map looks small on a real map
Game maps compress reality. Even the largest credible estimate for Leonida is smaller than the City of Miami plus Miami Beach, while the real places it is modelled on stretch across most of Florida. That is why our interactive map pins each location on its real-world counterpart and says so: the pins show where an area is modelled on, not in-game distances.
